The One After Earth Hour

How awesome to be part of something so much bigger than ourselves. How did you spend your Earth Hour? Me hopes everyone realises that Earth Hour isn’t just once a year. But an everyday habit we must all cultivate.

Only Slightly Engaged

Some of you may have already seen it on Facebook. Most had no idea about it. And all, was a little confused.

You see, earlier this month, I became slightly engaged. No, not engaged just yet, only slightly.

On the 7th of March, me and Baby’s family came together for a “Hantar Tanda” ceremony. Hantar Tanda is not unlike the merisik, but it’s definitely got more of a note of finality to it. After meeting a few weeks before to introduce the immediate family members to each other, we discussed on how we were going to do the Hantar Tanda. We decided to hold it in early March.

Our side of the family was going to be small. Tiny in comparison. My brother wasn’t even coming back from Terengganu because of something or other. And the rest of my Malay cousins in KL got misinformed of the time, so in the end, it was only just the five of us…five including Abang Lan. Kak G was out for the count since she was down with high fever. That’s ok we thought…we didn’t need a whole lot of people. It’s just a simple ceremony.

And then they came…11 cars in all. And according to Baby, that’s like 1% of his family. Hehe…it’s always nice to have big family gatherings.

I wasn’t too sure what happened outside…as I was safely tucked in the bedroom. I whiled away the time by reading Harry Potter…again. It must have been the third page when Kak Hamidah came into the room, and asked me to come out.

Awww shucks..so this is the part where I blush. Kak Hamidah then slips the ring to my finger, and we all embraced.

This was perhaps the most flattering picture of me in the bunch. I look funny in the rest. And we all had a nice lunch afterwards. Everyone had second helpings to lemak cili api ikan masin, sambal udang petai, pucuk paku and ulam. His side of the family was relieved that it was not briyani. Hehe!

You would think there should be at least one picture of me and him together. But alas…I managed to get saddled with the guy who is camera shy. Ah well..he makes it up in other ways :)

We prepared gifts for each other – the hantaran. Simple ones, since it’s just the Hantar Tanda. We had custom made cupcakes for them. They were so pretty, it was hard to eat them!

Baby and his family had a custom made cake for us.

Carrot walnut cake covered in cream cheese. Needless to say, we finished it within a day. The cake was made by Azreena who also made cupcakes for our last Hari Raya open house.

What about a picture of the ring you say? Ah well…for that privilege, we’d have to meet up. :)

So, that’s the story of how I got slightly engaged. So I’m sure by now all of you are wondering when the big day is. That’s another year to go. Me needs to save up. And lose weight! Rest assured, when the time comes, you will be in the know about it. I promise (crosses fingers!)

A Brief Update

Hey guys, sorry for not updating for so long. It’s been a much busier time at work for me than usual, cause we’ve decided to undertake a huge event project. And since it’s only down to like five people in my department, we found ourselves scrambling to get everything done on time. So far, so good. What event you say? Well…it’s our very own Earth Hour event!

Poster

I designed the first poster, that had a more corporate feel. The second poster was done by a colleague as it had to cater to a school audience. Anyway, if you don’t have any plans during Earth Hour (I’m sure the KL events will be dang crowded) you can always come by our event and celebrate with us. It won’t be much compared to the KL event, but it will be something. And if anything, it’ll be a great time for us to catch up.

Hope to see you there. And oh, if you are not planning to go anywhere, do turn off your lights. Sign up at http://www.earthhour.org.my/main.php. Malaysia is targeting 5 million people for this year’s Earth Hour.

Here’s to the Woman

…who knows where she’s going

and will keep on until she gets there;

who knows not only what she wants from life

but what she has to offer in return…

HERE’S TO THE WOMAN

who is loyal to family and friends,

who expects no more from others

than she is willing to give;

HERE’S TO THE WOMAN

who guides and inspires

not by quoting others philosophies but by living her own good example;

who accepts both victories and disappointments with the same grace,

and who can rise above life’s challenges and move on…

HERE’S TO THE WOMAN

who gives the gifts of her thoughtfulness,

who shows her caring with a word of support,
her understanding with a smile;

a woman who brings joy to others

just by being herself…
